Shabutsu
Experience
Shabutsu (Buddha Drawing) Experience
To let the tip of the brush reflect the image of the Buddha—
a moment in which prayer takes on a visible form.
Shabutsu is the quiet practice of copying the figure of the Buddha with a peaceful mind.
With each stroke of the brush, the Buddha’s teachings are reflected within,
creating a prayerful moment in which one feels united with the sacred image.
In this experience, you will trace the image of Kishibojin,
a deity deeply revered since the Kamakura period.
As a compassionate guardian who watches over the healthy growth of children
and the peace of families, she has long been cherished by many.
Your completed drawing will be offered for a blessing
in the main hall of the Kannondo Hall at the end of the session.
Duration: Approximately 1 hour
