Shikan
Experience
Shikan (Zazen) Experience
Without speaking, without moving — simply being.
A moment of clarity at Miidera Temple.
In the Tendai tradition, seated meditation is known as shikan—
a practice that quiets the mind and contemplates truth, preserved with great care through generations.
At Miidera, shikan is taught by emulating the serene posture
of the temple’s revered founder, Great Master Enchin (Chishō Daishi).
No words, no movement — only quiet sitting.
In the clear, still air, as you breathe slowly and gently,
spend a moment listening to the voice within and letting the flow of time fade away.
Duration: Approximately 1 hour
